Why is ASHA sharing a safety update?
On August 11, 2025, a Presidential executive order declared a crime emergency in Washington, D.C., and activated the DC National Guard. We want to be transparent about what’s happening and share the steps we’re taking to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all attendees.

Is Washington, D.C. safe to visit?
Millions of people visit Washington, D.C. each year, and most enjoy the city without incident. Like any large city, it’s best to stay aware of your surroundings, travel in groups when possible, and stick to well-lit, busy areas.
Will the ASHA Convention schedule change because of this?
No. The ASHA Convention will take place as planned, November 20–22, 2025, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.
